What is Epicurean?
The word “epicurean” is an adjective word that refers to “fond of or adapted to luxury or indulgence in sensual pleasures; having luxurious tastes or habits, especially in eating and drinking”. This word can also be referred to a disciple of Epicurus. The term epicurean can be traced back in the year 1350–1400; Middle English Epicurien, and from the Latin Epicūrē(us) of Epicurus or Greek Epikoúreios. Today, the term “epicurean” is often synonymous to gourmet, luxury, lavish, deluxe, or rich which often describe food and beverage. So in essence, epicurean talks about an epicure, and an epicure is a person who “appreciates fine food and drink”.
What is Epicurean Fair?
The Epicurean Fair is the celebration of good foods and drinks which was originally noted as final culminating activities in several courses in the Hospitality Management Department namely, Bar Management (HRM 7), Bartending Services (HRS 221), and Human Organization Management (HOM).
About the LOGO
The “EPICurean Fair” Season 11 with the theme: “S.P.E.C.S. 2020” which means “Strategy, People Management, Entrepreneurial Minds, Creativity, & Sparkle of Ideas”. The word SPECS is a colloquial abbreviation for specifications which means a set of documented requirements or often refers to a type of technical standard. As part of the tradition of “EPICurean Fair”, creating the logo became a big deal to mirror the objectives of the event which embodies the five major components of SPECS which was mentioned in the theme.
In essence, a Fatimanian who is empowered by creativity and ideas will keep on shining as long as he is geared, motivated, and equipped of his/her core values--A.C.H.I.E.V.E.R.
